Build It Your Way: Success Has No One-Size-Fits-All Formula

Mark:

Recently, during one of our MetaMind mastermind sessions, I asked each member a simple but revealing question: “What does scaling look like for you?”

The answers were anything but one-size-fits-all.

Some leaders lit up as they described visions of multi-million-dollar empires, teams of dozens, bestselling books, and sold-out stages. Others spoke with equal passion about streamlining, simplifying, creating more time for their families, and removing friction from their systems.

Both visions were equally valid. Equally powerful.

Because real growth isn’t about copying someone else’s model, it’s about building something that’s aligned with you.

Renee:

We’ve definitely fallen into that trap before, believing that if we just followed someone else’s “proven” system step by step, we’d get the same results.

I remember early on, we invested in a big coaching program. The leader was successful and had great intentions, but the advice boiled down to: “Do what I did and you’ll get where I am.”

And we tried. We implemented strategies that didn’t align with our family, our strengths, or even our preferred way of working. The result? Overwhelm. Exhaustion. Frustration. At one point, I remember sitting at my desk late at night thinking: This can’t be what success is supposed to feel like.

The truth we’ve learned since then is simple: what works beautifully for one person can be completely wrong for someone else.

Mark:

We’ve learned that growth isn’t linear.

It’s not always “up and to the right.” And it certainly isn’t universal.

Some seasons are for expansion. Others are for refinement. Sometimes scaling means more revenue. Other times, it means more time, more joy, or more presence.

I think back to 2020, when we hosted the first Soulful Leadership Retreat. At the time, success wasn’t about numbers; it was about creating a safe and sacred space for 70 transformational leaders to connect. That intimate gathering changed everything for our community. Later, as the retreat grew to over 190 attendees, our version of success shifted again.

The truth? Scaling looks different in every season.

Renee:

So many entrepreneurs get caught in that cycle of chasing someone else’s version of success, launching programs that don’t light them up, building teams they don’t actually need, or following schedules that drain their energy. We’ve been there.

What shifted everything for us was asking: What actually matters to us?

Yes, we want to serve more people. Yes, we want to grow. But not at the expense of our family, our health, or our joy. That means our systems, our offers, even our daily rhythms might look different from what’s trending online, and that’s okay.

There have been plenty of times when we’ve chosen to block off a weekend to be with Eden and Xen, even in the middle of a launch. On paper, it might not look “strategic.” But for us, those are the decisions that remind us success isn’t just about revenue, it’s about alignment.

Mark:

Authentic soulful leadership isn’t about fitting in. It’s about aligning deeply with what matters, and letting that shape your business.

We’ve helped clients grow seven-figure businesses, and we’ve helped others eliminate six figures of unnecessary overhead. Both were successes because the goal was never to check someone else’s box. The goal was Freedom, Alignment, and Purpose.

Renee:

As couplepreneurs, clarity is everything. We’re not just running a business, we’re raising kids, creating memories, and building a life. And that life has to be supported by our business, not swallowed by it.

So we keep asking ourselves questions like:

  • What does freedom look like in this season?
  • Where are we energized? Where are we drained?
  • How do we make sure our business supports our purpose and our family?

Sometimes the answers are easy. Other times, they surprise us and require a pivot.

That’s the real lesson for me: success isn’t static. It changes as you change. And that’s okay.

Mark:

I remember when we decided to end the Inspired Messengers Network. Even though we had invested a lot of time and effort into building that brand over four years, it drained us more than it fueled us. Letting it go opened space for creating the MetaMind Mastermind, which felt aligned, energizing, and impactful.

That’s the power of designing success on your own terms.

Sometimes it means scaling back for a season to be with our kids. Sometimes it means ramping up because we’re lit up about a new offer. There’s no wrong answer, as long as it’s your answer.

Renee:

If you’re feeling pressure to do things “the right way,” take a pause. Breathe. And then ask yourself: What’s my right way?

That’s the real key. Because success doesn’t come from following someone else’s checklist, it comes from creating a system that actually fits your life. And yes, I love a good plan (give me a notebook and a color-coded calendar and I’m in my happy place). However, I’ve learned that the only plans worth sticking to are those that support our values, our family, and our energy.

That’s what I want for every entrepreneur we work with: to stop chasing someone else’s version of success and start building their own. One that’s sustainable. One that feels good. One that’s aligned from the inside out.

Mark & Renee:

This is your reminder: you don’t need to follow someone else’s formula. You get to create your own.

Whether you’re building something big or refining something beautiful…
Whether you’re leading a team or working solo with intention…
Whether you’re working full-time or creating space for family, health, and joy…

Your business should be built around your life, not the other way around.

So here’s your permission slip to build it your way.

We’re cheering you on every intentional step of the journey.
