Mark:
As we head into a new year, there’s always a lot of noise about resolutions, big declarations, and bold promises about who we’re going to be and what we’re going to achieve.
But over the years, we’ve learned that the way you enter a year matters more than how loudly you announce it.
For us, the new year isn’t about forcing momentum. It’s about alignment. It’s about asking quieter questions before jumping into bigger plans.
Questions like: What actually worked last year? What felt heavy? What felt energizing? And what do we want to carry forward, and what do we want to leave behind?
Leadership doesn’t begin with a goal list. It begins with awareness.
Renee:
I’ve never been one for rigid New Year’s resolutions.
Maybe it’s because life and business have taught me how quickly things can change. Or maybe it’s because I’ve learned that growth doesn’t happen on a calendar; it happens when you create space to listen.
The transition into a new year always feels like a natural pause for me. A chance to reflect before the next season begins. To notice what my body is telling me and what I need. To check in with our family rhythm. To feel into what kind of year I actually want to live, not just what I want to accomplish.
As couplepreneurs, Mark and I don’t have a clear separation between our personal lives and our business. Everything is intertwined. So the way we start the year sets the tone for everything: our work, our partnership, our leadership, and our family life.
Mark:
One thing we’ve come to love is that our year doesn’t start with hustle.
It starts with connection.
Every February, we gather with an incredible group of heart-centered leaders at the Soulful Leadership Retreat. It’s become a powerful rhythm for us, a way to begin the year grounded, supported, and aligned with the people we’re building alongside.
It’s not about rushing into the next thing. It’s about slowing down long enough to get clear on your vision, your relationships, and the kind of impact you want to create.
That clarity carries us through the rest of the year in ways no spreadsheet or strategy session ever could.
Renee:
There’s something special about beginning the year in community.
When you start the year surrounded by people who value depth, integrity, and connection, everything else flows more naturally. Decisions get easier. Partnerships feel cleaner. And leadership feels less lonely.
We’ve watched this happen not just for ourselves, but for so many people in our community, leaders who leave the retreat feeling grounded instead of overwhelmed, clear instead of scattered, supported instead of isolated.
It’s a reminder that you don’t have to figure everything out on January 1st. Sometimes the most powerful way to start the year is by giving yourself space to arrive first.
Mark & Renee:
As this new year approaches, we invite you not to rush the beginning.
Let yourself reflect. Let yourself breathe. Let yourself choose intention over pressure.
And if starting the year in connection, clarity, and community feels aligned, we’d love to welcome you to the Soulful Leadership Retreat this February.
However you step into this next chapter, we hope it’s grounded, intentional, and supported.
Here’s to a year led with heart.
