Mark:
As entrepreneurs, partners, and parents, we’ve learned that success rarely comes by accident. It isn’t just about being in the right place at the right time; it’s about being prepared so that when the right opportunity arrives, you’re ready to step into it with confidence.
We’ve both had experiences where opportunities presented themselves, but because we weren’t fully prepared or aligned, they passed us by, often without us even knowing until they were gone. Who knows how many opportunities we never knew about?
On the other hand, some of the biggest breakthroughs in our business and life happened not because of luck, but because we had prepared ourselves and were aligned with our values, making it possible to recognize and act on the right opportunity at the right time.
Renee:
For me, preparation has always been twofold: strategy and implementation.
Strategy is where Mark and I dream out loud. Some of our best planning happened around our dining room table. We’ve spent countless hours there, sketching ideas, discussing possibilities, and most recently, revamping our Soulful Leadership Retreat for 2026. We gathered feedback and ideas from our MetaMind members and past participants, using those conversations to expand and reimagine what’s possible. That’s how strategy works best for us; it keeps us aligned with both our vision and our community.
But strategy alone doesn’t move the needle. I love a good plan. I geek out on spreadsheets, pages of notes, and having a checklist, but unless there is follow-through, those ideas just stay on paper. That’s why implementation is my lane. It’s the systems I design to keep us organized, the timelines that keep us on track, and the follow-through that ensures big ideas don’t fizzle out. Meanwhile, Mark is out building the relationships and collaborations that give those plans wings.
Over the years, I’ve noticed that when we’re prepared, opportunities don’t feel like random interruptions; they feel like the natural next step on the path we’ve been building with intention.
Mark:
The truth is, opportunities are all around us. Every conversation, every connection, every shift in the market carries the seed of possibility.
The key isn’t to wait for them, it’s to be aligned enough to recognize them.
Alignment means living and leading in integrity. It’s about knowing our values, honoring our purpose, and trusting the process even when the results aren’t instant. When we’re aligned, the right opportunities stand out clearly, and just as importantly, the wrong ones lose their shine.
I’ve seen this play out in our own journey. When David Riklan and I first launched the Joint Venture Directory, it was just a concept; a searchable platform for coaches, authors, speakers, and experts to find like-minded partners. On its own, it was just another “good idea.”
But the preparation had been years in the making. Both of us had been nurturing connections, building trust, and investing in community long before the Directory existed. When the opportunity to partner with David and to launch the JV Directory finally arrived, people said yes immediately. Within four years, more than 2,000 members have joined. It wasn’t luck; it was the intersection of preparation, alignment, and opportunity.
Renee:
Alignment has also taught me the power of saying no, and that hasn’t always been easy. Some opportunities look shiny on the surface: big stages, high-profile collaborations, things that “should” feel like a yes.
But when we check in with our values, our family, and our energy, sometimes the answer is no. And I’ve learned that saying no isn’t a loss, it’s an act of trust. It’s trusting that the right opportunities will fit, and that making space for them matters just as much as seizing the next exciting offer.
That’s the beauty of alignment: it gives you the clarity to know what belongs on your path and what doesn’t.
Mark:
The magic happens at the intersection of preparation and opportunity. That’s when partnerships form, ideas take flight, and momentum builds almost effortlessly.
We’ve seen this again and again in our MetaMind community. The leaders who invest in preparation, clarify their message, create systems that scale, and build authentic connections are the ones who always seem to “get lucky.” But we know better. Their “luck” is really the fruit of alignment and readiness.
Renee:
For us, getting clear has been essential because our business isn’t separate from our life; it’s part of it. Success has to be defined on our own terms.
Sometimes that means ramping up for a launch or saying yes to an expansion because it excites us and serves our community. Other times, it means slowing down, focusing on Eden and Xen, or prioritizing our own health and energy.
What I’ve realized is this: success isn’t random. It’s designed. It’s cultivated. It’s the result of preparing with intention, staying aligned with your values, and being willing to act when the right opportunities appear.
Mark & Renee:
Success isn’t about chasing everything. It’s about preparing with intention, aligning with your values, and being ready to act on the opportunities that truly align with you.
When you combine preparation and alignment, you don’t just see opportunities, you create possibilities. And when you act on them, success doesn’t just happen. It becomes inevitable.
